In this post we don’t want to talk about a single project but rather to show some differences in the presentation of an idea.                                                                                                                                        In fact we can see that the three shortlisted submissions for the St. Petersburg Pier International Design Competition have adopted two different types of exposure:                                                         -  Bjarke Ingels Group has created a slideshow with images format 4:3;                                                   -  Michael Maltzan Architecture and West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture have opted for a classic report in A4 format.                                                                                                                               In the first case we have a sequence of images that describe the idea in a very intuitive way – from historical analysis to the typological and dimensional analysis, up to the elaborates of detail – in which the use of writing is reduced to a minimum.                                                                                         In the project of Michael Maltzan Architecture, although we cannot speak of a slideshow, the images have a role still predominant but the texts are not limited to brief and incisive notes, becoming real piece of writing whose consistency increases with the passage of pages. To understand the project, therefore, it is necessary to devote a greater intellectual effort, due to the need to read texts in some cases very long.                                                                                                                                          In the latest project, instead, we are faced with a report of a conventional type, where the images are of secondary importance and are used only to accompany the text. In this way the project is not so readily understood only by looking at the pictures, whose small size produces a less glamorous and incisive effect on the viewer.
